I admit that I have not driven the brand new one but my dad drove a 97 and was very impressed. He is not too impressed with most sports car/sports sedans but he felt that the M3 handled very close to as good as the Z. On the other hand, its usually not a good idea to put down money for a car unless you've driven it. My dad's friend put a deposit of like $30k a couple years ago for the Porsche Boxster. After waiting six months and paying another $20k+ for it, the minute he drove the car, he hated it. He then went and drove a TT and an Rx7 TT and was pissed off at how well both those cars drove compared to the Porsche. The M3 is a great car and if it drives anything like it did with the models a couple years ago, you will not be dissapointed! Rock on, BlueThunderZ
